Summer 2009

6/25/09 - Well it's been an up and down summer. We no sooner got back from North Carolina (Father's Day - June 21st, one day after last Spring...), and our lawn mower broke down after Cindy was 97% done with our hayfield. Actually it wasn't that bad, but darn near close. She wanted to have someone mow it while we were gone to NC for 10 days NC, but I thought, no - there's a lot of nitrogen fixating clover growing in it, and if we have it mown short with hot days coming, the clover will not fixate anymore, and the grass will go dormant and turn brown.

Then Tuesday we got about 4 inches of rain in an hour, and our cellar flooded. A flash flood rolled down our little hill, half pouring down our storm doors to the basement, and half down our driveway. I tried to hold the door closed to slow it down some, but about 300 gallons of rushing water is hard to stop. We got about 2 inches spread out on our half finished basement, which has drains. The drains cannot handle that much water at once, and it kept pouring in for another 10 minutes. I got out of the way and sulked with Cindy. Quite a bit of damage and cleanup ahead. On the bright side we still have a roof over our heads, it stopped raining, and we have each other.
